Earth Systems and Soil Research Group (ESSRG) is an independent interdisciplinary research group focused on understanding the interactions between soils, ecosystems, climate, vegetation, and human activities. Our research integrates field observations, laboratory analyses, geospatial technologies, environmental modelling, and data science to address contemporary environmental challenges. We promote scientific excellence, open science, and international collaboration while developing innovative approaches that support sustainable land management, ecosystem conservation, and evidence-based environmental decision-making.
About us
Наші цінності
The activities of ESSRG are guided by principles that define how we conduct research, collaborate with partners, and contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge. These values shape our research culture and reflect our commitment to responsible, high-quality science.
We uphold the principles of academic integrity, transparency, reproducibility, and accountability throughout the entire research process, ensuring the reliability and credibility of scientific results.
We integrate expertise from soil science, ecology, Earth system science, forestry, agronomy, geoinformatics, environmental sciences, and data analytics to investigate complex environmental processes from multiple perspectives.
We apply advanced scientific methods, remote sensing, geographic information systems, environmental modelling, artificial intelligence, and spatial data analysis to address emerging challenges in Earth and environmental sciences.
We support the principles of Open Science by encouraging transparent communication, responsible data sharing, reproducible research, and broad accessibility of scientific knowledge whenever appropriate.
We believe that meaningful scientific progress is achieved through collaboration among researchers, universities, research institutes, governmental organizations, industry, and international scientific communities.
Our research promotes the sustainable management of soils, forests, ecosystems, and land resources while contributing to biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, and the long-term stewardship of natural environments.
We recognize the responsibility of science to society and the environment. We strive to produce reliable knowledge that supports informed decision-making and evidence-based environmental policies.
We investigate local and regional environmental processes within the broader context of global environmental change, recognizing the interconnected nature of Earth's soils, ecosystems, climate, and landscapes.
Founder of the Research Group
ESSRG was founded by a scientist who combined expertise in Earth Systems Science and Soil Science to create a platform for interdisciplinary research. His/her vision was to form a modern research group that combines science, innovation and international collaboration.

Trofymenko Petro Ivanovich
Petro I. Trofymenko is a Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Professor, and the Founder and Head of the Environmental Soil Systems Research Group (ESSRG).
His research is dedicated to interdisciplinary studies of soil systems, digital agriculture, geospatial technologies, and environmental monitoring. He is the author and co-author of more than 150 scientific publications, including research articles, textbooks, monographs, and patents. His research has been published in journals indexed in the international bibliographic databases Scopus and Web of Science (WoS) and has contributed to advances in agroecology, geoinformatics, and sustainable natural resource management.
Our team of specialists
Our team is a group of experienced scientists and researchers specializing in Earth Systems Science, soil science, ecology, and climate research. We combine knowledge and experience to implement interdisciplinary projects and create science-based solutions to today's environmental challenges.
